Jarrett Horne '19 on the Trans-Pacific Partnership

Alumni

Alumni from the first graduating class of Global Commerce majors are already making their mark on the world. Jarrett Horne ‘19, who majored in Global Commerce and minored in History, is currently pursuing an M.A. in Security Policy Studies, with a concentration in Conflict Resolution, at George Washington University. In the December 2021 issue of the International Policy Digest, Jarrett published an essay, “Reversing a Mistake: Rejoining the Trans-Pacific Partnership.”

The first lines of his essay could not be more fully grounded in Global Commerce thinking, which provides a broad and historic perspective: “International trade is the beating heart of the world economy. From Christmas gifts to lifesaving medicines, the United States relies on trade arteries that stretch around the globe.”

His essay provides a brief analysis—clearly demonstrating the excellent writing skills he developed at 必博娱乐,比博娱乐网址 #########—of the value of the TPP and the impact of the United States’ withdrawal from the agreement.

He concludes: “The pandemic has made it painfully clear that no nation can cut itself off from the world. Now more than ever, the United States must reclaim its role as the standard-bearer of the international community that is cautiously reconnecting. Rejoining the agreement will restore the heartbeat of international trade and help uplift all Americans. It will show our allies that America sticks to its word, and it will make the world a safer and more prosperous place.”
