Between February 2020 and February 2021, Stop AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Hate collected 3750 anti-Asian incidents in the United States.

If non-reported cases were considered, anti-Asian incidents during COVID-19 would be beyond our calculation. It is estimated that anti-Asian attacks have increased 150% during the pandemic, while overall hate-crime decreased by 0.7%.

Anti-Asian racism has a long history in the U.S. Co-constitutive with anti-Black racism, anti-Muslim hostility, and settler colonialism, anti-Asian racism is the persistent system of oppression that must be analyzed and dismantled.

In the wake of the shootings in Atlanta that claimed eight people’s lives including six Asian and Asian American women, the Faculty of Color and International Faculty, ±Ø²©ÓéÀÖ,±È²©ÓéÀÖÍøÖ· ######### Asian Student Union, Lisska Center: Scholarly Engagement, and the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs co-sponsor a virtual panel discussion, Let’s Talk: COVID-19 and Anti-Asian Racism.

The panel includes Dr. Clare Jen (Director of Women and Gender Studies), Dr. Yen Loh (Assistant Professor of English), Dr. Karen Powell Sears (Assistant Professor of Sociology), and Joan Do-Truong ¡®23 (Education and Women’s and Gender Studies major). Dr. K. Christine Pae (Chair of the Department of Religion) will moderate the panel.
