Leigh Coen ‘73 presents, “Border Security Data Analytics: Best Practices, Operational Models, Business Value.”

Coen will discuss how data analytics are used in international trade and border security, presenting a case study of their implementation and use at the U.S. Customs Service. For six years he led IBM’s systems engineering team at the U.S. Customs data center in Washington, as the agency expanded its massive data analytics workload in support of border security operations. This history will provide a case study of best practices in implementation, data management, and stakeholder business value. U.S. Customs’ analytical methods and tools supported an operational strategy that served as a strategic model for the World Customs Organization and leading customs agencies in many nations.
