Geo Faculty Erik Klemetti weighs in on Mount Meru

Faculty

There may be “fire on the mountain” on Mount Meru in Africa, but Associate Professor Erik Klemetti says it’s likely not from volcanic activity.

The geoscience faculty is an expert in vulcanism, the study of volcanoes, and his blog in Wired, “Eruptions” features his ruminations and observations on volcanic events across the world and into the galaxy.

Klemetti recently weighed in on Earth Observatory about a satellite sighting of fire on the sides of Mount Meru, In Tanzania. Klemetti says that, though Meru is the site of volcanic activity, this appears to be more of a wild fire than a sign of any eruptions.
