Christopher S. Travers (he/him) has joined the Center for Black Studies at ±Ø²©ÓéÀÖ,±È²©ÓéÀÖÍøÖ· ######### in the role of visiting instructor for the fall of 2021. This semester he is teaching the course: Social Justice Movements Among Peoples of Color, BLST/ANSO 340. Chris is an educator, writer, and speaker. His research explores the ways in which faith, love, and gender inform the lived experiences of Black folx in education, particularly Black men. His most recent work connects love and healing frameworks with anti-heteronormativity among Black men. He has scholarship published in several research journals including the Journal of Negro Education, Spectrum: A Journal on Black Men, InsideHigherEd, and the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education.

Chris earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Frostburg State University, master’s in Counseling Psychology from Towson University, and Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University. In his most recent role, Dr. Travers served as an Assistant Teaching Professor at North Carolina State University. Further, Chris served as the director of young adults at the New Salem Baptist Church.
