On October 24, 2018, The Goodspeed Lecture Series hosted Dr. A. Breeze Harper, as a guest speaker. The event was co-sponsored by Religion and Black Studies. Dr. A. Breeze Harper¡¯s lecture: ¡°Mindful or Deluded? Ethical Consumptions, Engaged Buddhism, and Anti-Racism Pedagogy in a White Settler Nation¡± held the audience¡¯s rapt attention. Dr. Harper is a renowned African American critical race feminist and theorist, diversity strategist, public speaker, and author.

During her lecture, she spoke about her work with Critical Diversity Solutions, a specialized strategic planning, training, and consulting service. She also referred to her work as founder of the Sistah Vegan Project, and her ground-breaking anthology entitled: Sistah Vegan: Black Female Vegans Speak on Food, Identity, Health, and Society.

During her address, Dr. Harper explored the relationships between food, dietary choices, and physical and spiritual wellness. She explored how these relationships are influenced by race, socio-economic class, gender, sexuality, and power relations. The audience was enthralled by how she personalized her own mindfulness practices in the work of anti-racism.
