More about Bancroft House

Built in the Federal style by Ashley Bancroft, an active abolitionist, Bancroft House was the site of the first meeting of the Ohio State Anti-Slavery Society. The meeting led to the "Granville Riot" of 1836. The house was also a station on the Underground Railroad and early childhood home of Hubert Howe Bancroft, Ashley's son and renowned Pacific Coast historian. The home was part of the Deeds Purchase of 1917.
