The Titus-Hepp Lecture Series welcomes Lisa Shabel, associate professor and director of undergraduate studies in philosophy at Ohio State University, presenting “Kant on Mathematical Cognition.” Kant identifies two “stems of human cognition”, sensibility and understanding, which work together to put us in a perceptual relation to objects that are distinct from ourselves. In this talk, Shabel will discuss the special case of mathematical cognition, with the aim of identifying exactly where mathematical representations are located in Kant’s mental architecture.
