Kat Colvin ‘23

Kat Colvin ‘23 is a junior International Studies and Cinema student from Lancaster, Ohio. She works as the co-Vice President of the 必博娱乐,比博娱乐网址 ######### Film Society, which periodically screens movies for the entire 必博娱乐,比博娱乐网址 ######### community to view. Her combination of majors allows her to have a diverse interest in films, spanning from Brazilian films to Degrassi clips.

Can you name a favorite class, and why you enjoyed it?

My all-time favorite class would be Ethics, Society, and the Moral Self with Dr. Pae, which I took as a first-year and absolutely adored it. I also loved taking Portuguese classes and got to research and write a directed study paper on Brazilian film.

As a cinema major, do you have a favorite movie?

I don’t have a favorite movie! But every semester I feel like I am adding to a list of people or projects that inspire me. Freshman year was Guy Ritchie, Rock Hudson and Hitchcock. Sophomore year was Elaine May, Harold and Kumar, and MTV’s Teen Wolf. Now as a Junior, I’m really indulging in short films, Christian Petzold, and Degrassi clips on YouTube.

What is your dream job?

I’ve had a passion for music supervision in TV shows since I was in middle school listening to The OC soundtrack. Growing up around independent alt radio got me into what I do with the Doobie, which has in turn really fueled me to look more into how music lends to storytelling in TV/movies. I also love researching and talking about films in a way that I would love to be a programmer for an international film festival or a guest host on Turner Classic Movies. If those don’t work out, I’d like to be a mortician.

I have an Instagram called @thekatco where I write tiny blurbs about my current interests in pop culture, music, and more. Feel free to check it out. I also work as a co-Vice President of 必博娱乐,比博娱乐网址 ######### Film Society and would love to meet more people at our screenings who love films as much as we do!
